Our Other Varieties of Willow.

Many varieties besides Viminalis have abundant catkins in spring, attractive and colourful stems throughout the summer and winter and are much prized for basketry and crafts.

The prices of the following additional varieties are as for S.Viminalis:

  • Salix Triandra 'Noir de Villaines' (Almond Leaved Willow) – Favourite basketry willow with brown bark, best used peeled.

  • Salix Purpurea 'Eugenii' – Excellent basketry variety, slim rods to 6 ft long, green with blue-green leaves. Early catkins tinged with purple used in flower arrangements. Good for hedging.

  • Salix Alba X Fragilis (Flanders Red) – Favourite basketry waxy rods, red in autumn, drying to amber or gold.

  • Salix Alba X Fragilis (Golden Willow) – Bright golden basketry willow, also for a beautiful hedge or flower arranging.

  • Salix Alba 'Vitellina' (Yellow, Amber, Golden Willow) – New growth is bright orange, fine grown as a single specimen tree, or to create a shrubbery, or an attractive garden hedge. Coppicing produces rods to 6 ft.

  • Salix Cinerea (Grey Sallow) - Native variety at home in bog or mountain, exposed, peaty, wet, windy, coastal areas. Large shrub or small tree. Remarkable display of yellow catkins in early Spring before the leaves appear. Cuttings 12 - 18 inch only.
